I’m Karen—an artist, storyteller, and lifelong creative with over 40 years of professional experience in Graphic Arts. My journey began in the publishing world, designing logos and visual branding for clients. That path led me to become the Graphic Department Head at our local newspaper, where I spent many years crafting advertisements and layouts that brought local stories to life.

These days, my creative focus has shifted in two wonderfully imaginative directions: digital design for the paper craft industry and writing children’s chapter books inspired by my own family. My current book series, The Adventures of Hare Hollow, follows a magical woodland village discovered by a curious young boy named Steven—and yes, the characters are based on real family members (with a few fun twists and talking animals thrown in, of course!).

Now, I spend my days illustrating, designing journal kits, and writing whimsical tales filled with adventure, heart, and imagination. Whether you're here for crafting inspiration or a charming read with your little ones, I’m so happy you stopped by.

Describing my art style is a bit like trying to catch a butterfly—it’s always colorful, often unexpected, and constantly in motion. I create unique and beautifully vibrant digital designs for the digital journal and scrapbooking industry, blending bold creativity with a love for all things paper-crafted.

While I don’t claim a single, defined style, that’s part of the magic. My work shifts and evolves with my mood—sometimes whimsical, sometimes vintage, sometimes a splash of both. I often weave mixed media elements into my designs, creating layers of texture and personality that bring each page to life.

At its heart, my art is about expression, inspiration, and giving fellow crafters the tools to tell their own stories—beautifully and boldly.

Every journal kit I design begins with a spark—often inspired by the beauty of nature or the creativity of fellow artists. Whether it’s the colors of a blooming garden or a clever technique spotted in a YouTube video, inspiration is always swirling around me.

Many of my designs are born from a simple idea: “How can I make this even better?” I love taking something I’ve seen and reimagining it in my own vibrant, layered style. Watching how other artists create is a huge part of my process—it fuels my imagination and often leads to exciting new directions I hadn’t considered before.

From those early sparks, I build each kit piece by piece, mixing colors, textures, and elements until the pages feel just right. It’s a process full of discovery, and no two kits are ever quite the same.

Collaboration is one of the most joyful parts of my creative journey. I’m passionate about working with fellow designers and my amazing customers to bring charming, inspiring designs to the Junk Journal and Digital Journal community.

Whether it’s teaming up with another artist or listening to ideas from the crafters who use my kits, I believe the best creations are made together. Every collaboration is a chance to blend styles, spark new ideas, and create something truly special—full of heart, imagination, and inspiration.
